Frankfurt Musikmesse

Still the world’s biggest Music Fair, my visit to the Frankfurt Musikmesse this year impressed me with the promotion of 100% German made pianos. The Association of German Piano Manufacturers is working hard to clear up confusion about what a “Made in Germany” piano really is, and Schimmel are very proud to be on their list. There was a whole floor displaying European and German pianos, with an amazing Schimmel Piano stand depicting the story of Schimmel’s history and displaying the four Generations of their landmark instruments, including their sensational Plexiglas grand piano. I was fortunate to spend an evening with the Schimmel family and especially to sit next to Nikolaus Schimmel at dinner. Even though he is retired, Nikolaus’s wisdom and influence is still evident in the Schimmel brand. We were joined by his daughter Viola Schimmel and her husband Hannes, as well as Lothar Kiesche and members of the Loat family, who have a long family tradition of representing Schimmel pianos in the United Kingdom.
